The Butcher's Forthcoming
Claribel was born in a small home on the Azuremist Isle. There, her parents were hard laborers, looking to give their child the best life. Despite numerous attempts, Claribel turned out to be an only child. Because of this, her parents worked harder than ever to make sure she would have the opportunity to do greater things in life. Growing up, Claribel spent many nights by herself as her parents put in extra work for more gold. Slaving away in the mines, her parents would come home after a long day and rest. Claribel felt lonely as she grew, she didn't have anyone to raise her. Being put through basic education, Claribel exceeded further than her colleagues. She was able to learn and interpret the education material in droves. Claribel creates her own means to understanding problems, taking unconventional approaches to quickly arrive at solutions.
The Apprenticeship
Her strides in academia did not go unnoticed. The local paladin order hall acknowledged her coordination and judgement when it came to problem solving. The liaison for the paladin's sought out her parents. Finding them in a mine, he offered them to chat over lunch. Obliging, Claribel's parents discussed their daughters future. Her future came at a cost. The apprenticeship for a paladin was not cheap. The price would have completely drained their funds, even putting them into crippling debt. To her parents, this was worth the sacrifice. At the time, Claribel was her typical rebellious teenager, wanting nothing to do with her lame parents. She did not realize the sacrifices they were making to secure a better future for her. Once Claribel found out about the apprenticeship, she became angered. She was upset that her future had been taken away for her, decided by someone other than herself. An understandable argument, however, her parents insisted she wasn't looking at the value of what an apprenticeship had to offer. Although reluctant, Claribel agreed and began her apprenticeship at the age of 15. Learning the ropes was difficult for Claribel. She did not have the physical strength to keep up with the rest of her paladin class. Her mentor noticed her struggles and offered a solution. Her power did not lie solely on physical performance, but rather a combination of physical and spiritual connection to the light. Claribel would spend a lot of her time scouring scrolls and tomes within the order hall. Learning was her strong suit, and it shined. Figuring out ways to align herself with the light, she was able to gain powers far quicker than other apprentices. Her strategic mindset along with her holy combat prowess helped her push through the apprenticeship at light speed.
The Guardian
Claribel spent a good portion of her 21st and 22nd years of age deviating from the traditional paladin route and sought after creating a new branch. The Guardian role was what her prior years of research and development was going into. Defense was a great strategy to wear down opponents stamina, allowing for an easier execution. Claribel mastered warping the light in her favor, creating transparent barriers around herself, molding to the curves of her body. These barriers were flexible and moved with her. These barriers did not function as a bubble but more of a stopping force for any potential weapon blows. With the traditional blessing of the blades, her weapon of choice would be the weight of a feather within her hands, yet slice through the air with precision. The combination of her shield in conjunction with the blade's blessing created a deadly game of cat and mouse. Mastering the Guardian role was no easy feat, convincing the light to willingly bend for your wishes was both exhausting and frowned upon by traditionalist paladins. Claribel managed to scrounge up a small team of paladins to follow her newfound role and practice it. During her later 20s, the Guardian role came in handy. Saving the lives of thousands of paladins fighting off the black empire. With Claribel's strategic guidance, she was able to push back the black empire and even begin to penetrate into their sanctum of Nyalotha. The Guardian's heavily assisted in the evacuation of many injured traditional paladins. Deep within the sactum of the black empire, Claribel made her first and most costly miscalculation. A small splinter team that she lead became quickly overwhelmed. Many of her friends she came across became unfavorable by the light. Some slaughtered, others taken hostage. For Claribel, she had been captured and tortured for information. Breaking her body, peering into her mind, planting false memories, her last barrier of defense withstood it all. The only thing preventing her to succumbing to the onslaught of the black empire's torturers was the glimmer of hope her parents had to see her succeed. She couldn't let them down, they had worked so hard to help get her to where she was today. Each passing moment within the confines of the black empire's chambers, she prayed. The light's power slowly built up within, creating a reservoir for her to tap into when the time was right. Left in a room with an unholy amalgamation tapping into her mind to incapacitate her, she felt as if this time was as great as ever. With the restoration of her Guardian barrier, she pushed the amalgamations torturous tentacles from her face and out of her mind. The holy explosion incinerated the beast and broke her shackles. With broken legs, she crawled to the door of the chamber. She began to pick the lock of the door with shards of broken metal that were scattered across the room. Once free, she found herself using two swords as a make shift pair of crutches. She quickly grinded out the tips of the sword as to not over penetrate into the dirt below her. Keeping a low profile, she snuck her way out of the torture chambers and back through an invasion portal out of Nyalotha.
Freedom of Choice
Finding herself with multiple fractures in her legs, muscular atrophy caused by malnutrition in captivity, and onset post traumatic stress disorder, Claribel decided to retire as both a Guardian and a paladin. She could no longer fight the same battles as before due to her ailments. She did not see herself as fit to do so as prior. Claribel went on to take up multiple defense contract jobs. Whether it be escorting, overnight watches, or being a strongman for someone, she did her best to make ends meet. House Notley of Drustvar was in the market for a new head guard, one with a specific task in mind. Claribel wasn't sure what she was getting herself into but the job seemed tailored for her. Low risk, great pay, even housing arrangements were guaranteed. Taking on the job, Claribel would go on to find one of her best friends: Princess Dahlia Notley. Claribel's assignment was to protect the princess at all costs, as the princess was deemed flighty. Learning more, Claribel discovered that Dahlia had no intentions of being a princess. She didnt even want ties to the royal family anymore. Due to Dahlia's unwillingness to partake in royalty, Claribel would accompany Dahlia on midnight rendezvous's to underground inn's that Claribel had never heard of. Claribel has to keep watch over her as she had her fun. With time, Dahlia convinced Claribel to relax and enjoy the festivities as well, to which Claribel indulged. Scuffles with those Dahlia spoke with were few and far between. The time spent with Dahlia was cherished by Claribel. Most of Claribel's pay she received from this job was sent back home to her parents, whom she wasn't even sure were still alive as replies dwindled over the years. Claribel was happy with herself.
