Backstory overview

Sympathetic Suicide

Never once has commiseration crossed the elf's mind in her field of work. Sympathy was a sign of weakness. Second chances were a critical vulnerability when collecting debts. A second chance allowed the client to run away with your money, to never be seen again. No remorse could be given when collecting a debt. It was nothing personal, all work related. You wanted money? You need to pay it back. Kingsfall's Pawn and Gold is more than happy to hand out what people need. No credit checks are required. However, payment plans are non negotiable and need to be satisfied unless the borrower wishes to experience life altering penalties.

This is where Gina came in. Being raised solely for the purpose of controlled destruction, Gina was a shoe in for Kingsfall's credit managerial role. Gina was swept from the adoption system before she could form her own consciousness. Her mentor and paternal figure was a rugged old man. Posing as a custodian, Oscar would go on to foster Gina into the Morticians Guild. A thousand year old guild who's backbone started under a different kingdom. The Morticians Guild was founded to support undertakers and morticians within the kingdom, advocating for better pay and safety standards during times of heavy pestilence. Over the next thousand years the guilds agenda had drastically changed from supporting the practice to generating more revenue for the practices by creating more of a supply for undertakers and morticians, all while under the guise of secrecy. The Morticians Guild had two branches, a branch for practicing morticians and undertakers, and another for assassins to bolster the supply for their counterparty. Oscar had been employed as a manslayer for the Morticians, as well as a custodian for a local inn. Oscar would go on to teach Gina about crafting numerous different poisons, where certain ligaments are located on common races for limiting movement, different grappling techniques to prevent grievous harm to herself, survival and tracking skills, and of course basic education. Every day was a learning opportunity for Gina.

With age, Gina would learn more psychological aspects from Oscar. You can know how to kill but do you have it in you to do so? The world is black and white. Binary options were required in order to build the courage to selflessly murder targets. No emotion could go into eliminating a life, otherwise anxiety will cause you to withdraw, creating an entire slew of issues that you have no control over. Oscar taught Gina about situational control and how dire it is. If she encounters a fight, she needs the upper hand, she can't be scared, she needs to have her mind be clear. A clear mind will always give you the upper hand, because if you can't focus you will make grave mistakes.

Sympathy is for the weak, and the weak will not remain. That was a common saying from Oscar before she accompanied him on elimination tasks. As with expertise comes failure. Failure is the best teacher in itself, although the riskiest. Gina's first target was a man staying at the inn that Oscar worked at. Oscar would bar no assistance for Gina on her first live mission. She needed to find a set of master keys to the bedroom, or attempt to pick the door lock without raising suspicion. Acquiring the master key was simple as she picked it from the bartenders pocket while ordering a chocolate milk, Gina was 16 at the time and kingdom bylaws barred those under 18 from consuming alcohol. Once in the bedroom, she has a multitude of decisions on dispatching her target. The easiest and most quiet approach Gina took was a quick slice of the neck. Deep enough to slice through the cartoid arteries to ensure a short bleed out and deep enough to slice through the trachea, ensuring there would be no audible rebuttals from the target. The eliminating the target was a success, but not without proper grading from her mentor. Oscar observed the kill room after, checking everything for minute details. Strands of blonde hair were left on the bed, fibers from her clothes laid on the floor, Gina even had spurts of blood along her forehead when she cut the man's trachea. Aerated blood that the man choked out exploded across the room, painting anything within a 5 yard radius, including Gina. Not bad for her first attempt, but she would be easily caught in the future.

The Lords Work

A common theme for Gina in her adulthood was lacking love and missing out on a childhood. After the disappearance of Oscar, she was on her own. Finding work through Kingsfall's Pawn and Gold as a credit management supervisor, Gina spent a lot of time maiming and disposing those who refused to payback the business. Collecting money was her main source of income, providing for the Morticians was her secondary employer. Providing bodies to the morgue helped keep a roof over her head and a hot meal whenever she wanted one. It was home to her, but it didn't feel like home. Walking through the streets she would often see happy couples enjoying life together, or kids playing in the streets. She knew what she wanted but she didn't know how to get it. Starting small, Gina stumbled upon a toyshop within the city limits. Browsing the goods she discovered a love for stuffed animals. She picked up one that day, a small Elekk plushie. Keeping this with her, she held it each night, sparking an internal renaissance.

Her attitude towards life became more juvenile. She felt some inner peace with the slight adaptations she made to both her mannerisms and her outwardly behavior. A mix of professionalism with hefty sprinkles of immaturity created a dangerous yet entertaining personality. Her personality heavily bled into her work. Gina grew into playing with her targets, much like a cat would play with a mouse. This only furthered her success in returning the payments owed to Kingsfall. Gina wouldn't go after just her target, but she would strike at what they love. Dangling their lives in her hands, she could manipulate whoever she needed to give her the money that was owed.

Love came at a price for Gina. Because of her playful nature, it opened up a huge opportunity for others to take advantage of. She had always seen couples in the street, people loving each other unconditionally. She was jealous, as this was what she wanted for a very long time. However, she was scared, scared of love. She is the product of an environment that did not reward positive behavior with love. Positive behavior was rewarded with better meals, better clothing. Time was never spent fostering relations. Emotions get in the way of work and can greatly sway your thoughts and actions. Gina was raised to think black or white, emotions only created gray areas.

Her first boyfriend ended up dead. She does not tell anyone of this as it greatly embarrasses her. The lessons she learned within the first 18 years of her life were thrown out the window as soon as she was released from her mentor. Gina craved the romantic gaze of a loving partner. Falling in love with a human named Jasper, she found herself overloaded with repressed emotions. Jasper was perfect, a nice man who ran a small textile stand in the markets. He was tall, well built, slightly older than her, enough stubble on his face. Gina was madly in love even though she had only talked to this man twice. She fell hard.

The relationship only lasted two months. Gina found Jasper talking with more female customers than she was comfortable with. Jealousy overcame Gina's mind and she wouldn't listen to his voice of reason. Due to the overbearing emotions she felt, she grew extremely spiteful of Jasper. She handled this hiccup in the only way she knew how.

A Poised Mixologist

All of Gina's eggs were placed in one basket. That basket being a mortar and pestle. The eggs; whatever money she received was spent on reagents for her craft. Gina spent a lot of her free time mixing different chemicals to see what would be the deadliest combination that could be used on her victims. A lot of the time was spent researching what certain chemical combinations could do to the body of specific species. She found that the nervous system for most species was relatively the same, thanks to books the Morticians kept in a communal library within the barracks.

Chemistry greatly tickled Gina's mind. She continued for the next few years to add to Oscar's notebook. Creating recipes that not only hurt others, but helped others as well. Healing potions, stamina restoration potions, ointments that cured minor ailments. She dabbled in creating some concoctions for her own pleasure. These however she did few and far between as her other creations garnered more attention from those interested.

Due to Gina's love for chemical tinkering, she would be found breaking into all sorts of shops during the night to loot whatever she needed to complete her projects. She wasn't always willing to fork over cash for what she wanted, especially when she knew she could get away with theft rather easily. The larceny only became more frequent as time went on. Day time thievery started to become common as well. She spent time charming cashiers to giving her deep discounts on products she wanted to buy, all while her pockets were stuffed with what she wanted to steal, making her look like a legitimate customer.

Gina expanded her love for mixology into cooking. Although she had a roof over her head and free meals within the barracks of the Morticians guild, the food served there looked more of a nutritious gray paste than an actual meal. Gina stole meats, vegetables, fruits, anything that she could get her hands on. She proceeded to cook these outside of the barracks for herself, learn how to cook. Because of her love for mixology, she was able to combine the right spices with her food to create mouthwatering meals, especially when she added her secret ingredient.

Kingsfall

The cool fall breeze brushed against Gina's face. She stood in the doorway of a corner store. Kingsfall Pawn and Gold was your run of the mill pawn shop. Buying stolen items and in turn, giving people 15% of what they are going to sell the item for. Typical gut wrenching price gouging was common within these walls. Tipped off by the Morticians, Gina heard that the owner was looking for help, offering contract work.

Confused, Monte leaned into the counter, observing the young woman. He was not sold on her skills solely based on her appearance. Gina presented herself as dainty, like a foxglove. Monte twisted his kempt mustache, checking out Gina's funeral seal. If the Morticians sent her, she had to be good. Monte was torn.

Gina clasped her hands together, tilting her head aa she looked up at Monte with her puppy eyes. Upon hearing a disapproving groan escape the man's lips, Gina quickly grabbed him by the beard. Yanking his chin down against the counter, she held the tip of her knife against his ear canal, threatening to free the snail in his ear if he did not give her work.

Taken back by her cruel shift between softly alluring to excessively aggressive, he understood why some Morticians refered to her as a siren. He agreed to give her work, but she was going to start out small. Monte was a man with little trust in anyone. Running the pawn shop, he came across numerous customers trying to sell him fake items.

Gina agreed to his deal. She was confident she could impress Monte with her skills. The majority of jobs offered to Gina through Kingsfall was not what she expected. Monte's money did not come from buying Grandma's stinky antiques, but moreso giving out conditional loans with obtuse interest rates and unconventional repayment schedules. Loans were never given out in small increments. With Monte running out of birthdays to collect, he couldn't continue retrieving payments himself, he needed help. Reaching out to the Morticians was his only option as the guild prides itself on the reason for existing for over a millennium. Control through termination. Monte knew they could help him collect his debts.

Boytoy

Love crept itself into Gina's life again. Once again, Gina was head over heels for another man. Ollie was a palace guard. They met when reports came in that fires were being started in the streets near the Mortician's barracks. Because of the time, no city guards were available to investigate the report.

Humming to herself, Gina sprinkled all sorts of spices onto a slab of steak. Flipping it numerous times on a grill over a fire in the middle of the street. The entire block was filled with the aroma of a delicious meal. Coming around the corner, Ollie witnessed Gina doing what Gina does.

Approaching the woman, Ollie put on his authoritative facade, attempting to scare the woman into complacency. Her gentle defiance, in combination with her alluring outwardly appearance created for an uncomfortable pang within his codpiece. His demeanor quickly changed as he fell in love with the rogue. He spent that night chatting with her and enjoying the best meal he had in ages.

Time went by, Gina would visit the palace just to tease Ollie. Mainly because she missed him. The two of them would sneak off during his working hours to go for swims in the local river, to go get dinner, or to exchange lips at the top of the palace.

The palace guard captain learned of Ollie's relation with Gina. Pulling him into a room at the start of one his shifts, he made Ollie confess to the relation he was having with a renowned Mortician. Ollie was granted with two options. Either use Gina to undermine the guild, or face death. Ollie did not want to die, he was finally enjoying life, but he also did not want to hurt Gina. Ollie assumed Gina wouldn't be too mad at him if he had her get him access to the interior of the guild.

Overtime, Ollie inquired about Gina's work, slowly trying to infiltrate the guild and earn her trust. One night, Gina brought him to the gates of the Morticians barracks. Seducing him, she brought him inside, leading him down numerous halls. Once back at the dorm, she ripped his armor off, running her soft hands up and down his hard muscular frame. She pulled a table towards the bed and grabbed some rope. She began to tie Ollie to the table, running her hands over his body and giggling. Tightening the rope, she ensured he couldn't move. Sifting through the trunk at the end of her bed, she pulled out a small vial, needle, and syringe. Ollie began hyperventilating, screaming for help. Gina softly reminded him that no one was coming to help him.

She spent the next hour slowly introducing acid to his nail beds, extracting information from the palace guard. Everything he told her confirmed what the Morticians tipped her off to. Gina did not appreciate Ollie using her, taking advantage of her kindness and playful nature. The attempt to usurp further decreased the Morticians relations with the monarchy.

A Wrist of Crap

Knee deep within the palace, Gina was set on a specific task asked of her by the guild. She needed to dispatch of a specific senator that belonged to the chamber of commerce. This specific senator had been composing legislation that would significantly impact the Morticians day to day life. A business licensing system would be suggested. This system would require any business within the walls of the city to procure specific licensing for their practice. Licenses would be granted in limited supply in an auction fashion. All proceeds would go to funding the public services. This greatly affected the Morticians as this funding would revive the city guard, putting a massive damper on the day to day operations. Also, acquiring licensing to be above board would require large sums of their profits to be forked over to the monarchy.

The senator in question has been garnering support of others within his chamber to secure votes for this legislation to become law. Gina had never worn a dress before. The Morticians provided a funeral dress for her to wear to the gala at which the senator would attend. Dresses were not a style that Gina enjoyed. Formality was not something Gina was accustomed to, as growing up she was never taught to understand the necessity of a disguise. For as great of a job as Oscar did raising Gina, he couldn't prepare her for everything in life.

Hors douerves became an addiction for Gina. Each time a server came out of the kitchen with a platter of assorted cheeses, Gina would stop them and demolish the plate. Unfortunately, these actions were starting to draw attention from the gala attendees. She caught others gazing at her and she quickly stopped, not before pocketing some cheese cubes.

Nimble and elegant would be best to describe Gina's ability to search pockets. It was a craft of Gina's that she was proud of during her childhood. Oscar wasn't impressed by much, but seeing a 9 year old girl withdraw a checkbook from the pocket of a man, write a check for herself, and return said book back to their pockets without garnering even a flinch had the man gobsmacked.

Within the Gala, Gina would take this ample opportunity to increase her wealth. Gina had many tricks up her sleeve, but her most successful tactic would be bumping into the side of her victim while searching their pockets. Because she was a fairly attractive individual, the victims first instinct is not to check where her hands are going but to make eye contact as she profusely apologized.

Gina encountered something she had not encountered before. She saw a man wearing an elegant outfit, which stood out moreso compared to others. Performing her signature bump, she grabbed the first thing in his pocket and transferred it to hers. The man quickly scoffed at her and returned back to conversing with the small group in front of him.

Eyes fell on the mens restroom as commotion built. Nervous whispers spread misunderstood rumors across the room. The heavy clanking of metal rushed through the gates of the ballroom. Bystanders were pushed out of the way. Within the confines of a stall in the bathroom was the targeted senator, his pants around his ankles as he sat on the can. His hands bound to the toilet. His head laid slump to the side, his eyes glossed over. His face horrified. The guards found that a stoma had been carved out in his neck, his vocal cords had been sliced to prevent audible screaming. A rubber tourniquet was discarded on the floor next to his body, his arm showed evidence of an injection. His veins going up his arm were black and his entire body was drenched in sweat. His body was hot to the touch.

Flicking a piece of pocket cheese into her mouth, Gina walked down the road. Reaching into her pocket, she grabbed a small smooth stone. Carved into the stone was a rune. The stone had a light brown gradient color to it. Touching it caused the stone to vibrate, as if something was in it. Gina held the stone in her hand and ran her thumb over the rune. A cloud of dust kicked up in front of her, twirling around was a magical sandy blonde horse. On its head was a horn. The horse did a twirl. Gina looked at the horse, then back down at the stone. She ran her thumb over the rune again and the horse disappeared, the dust returning to the stone within her palm. She then went on to repeatedly summon and dismiss the horse multiple times over the next two minutes like a child discovering a light switch. Each time the horse growing more and more pissed with her before it ended up tackling her. Laughing, Gina petted it's mane, handing it some of her pocket cheese. Through feeding it, Gina quickly earned its trust. Gina would go on to name the horse Gunner.

War Hungry

Sitting on the floor of Kingsfall, Gina would be found laying on her stomach, kicking her legs back and forth, coloring in random pages of books that had been collecting dust on the pawn shops shelves. Monte didn't care, there was no money in those books. War bonds were a very common tactic for the monarchy to raise money to fund its plundering of other kingdoms. Monte would find that his personal funds were running dry. A lot of his money was tied up in war bonds. Purchasing war bonds gave businesses special privileges within the kingdom, like decreased taxes and bailouts, at least that is what was promised. Monte reached out numerous times to the kingdoms advocates to see if he could apply for a bailout. Numerous times he never received a reply. Monte wanted his money back.

Tasked with retrieving a large sum of gold, Gina accepted his quest. Because of the quantity requested and the pure weight of the precious metal, Gina couldn't simply retrieve all 500,000 gold coins from the monarchs coffers.

Gina was a politician. She is great at charming people and having them buy into whatever hot air she spewed out of her ass. The bank that held the war bonds wasn't far from Kingsfall. Gina would go on to purchase falsified proclamations from scribes that the Morticians recommended. The proclamation header read as if it were the monarchs chamber of commerce. Posing as a deliverer for the senators, she rode in on Gunner. Gina went on to present the proclamation to the banks general manager. The proclamation listed that the war bonds for Monte Silverstone would be paid out with an accelerated maturity date.

Without questioning the wrathful senators decisions, 600,000 gold coins would be withdrawn from the monarchs coffers. Gina returned to Kingsfall and within the hour, a cart arrived at the storefront to deliver the payment.

Fascinated by her creativity and connections, Monte let Gina keep the 100,000 gold interest that was accrued on his warbond. Gina stared at the large pile of coins, unsure what she could even spend this on as it's the most money she's ever had at a single point. She couldn't deposit this into the bank as the banks couldn't insure her money, so she kept it with Monte as she trusted him. She would request withdrawals from him whenever she needed it.
