Heal | Tera has had some previous priest training within her life. Because of this training, she is able to cast basic priest spells. |
Thwack! | Tera takes her enchanted undertaker's shovel and hits her opponent with it. |
The Redeemer's Gift | One of the few abilities Tera actually paid attention to during her training was The Redeemer's Gift. An exhaustive last resort heal to save either herself or her target. |
Drust Infusion | Tera takes the gift bestowed upon her by the Tribulationist's and shares it with those close to her. Her veins begin to temporarily turn black as the spell takes a heavy toll on her body. |
A felt tip brushed over the linen page. Signing away, the family business had been absorbed into the guild. Settled in a nook in Redridge Mountains was a small town. Within the town resided the Marrow's. The eldest daughter of Loretta was Tera. Tera was a child born out of wedlock to an unknown father. Loretta and Orville raised Tera within the ridge. Being a mortician was a generational profession for Orville's lineage. However, a simple dispute lead to Orville losing his ability to reproduce, thus ending the blood lineage.
Tera was raised to learn to dispose of bodies and coordinate funerals for those who could afford such. Working hand in hand with undertakers, Tera learned to prepare the bodies to be disposed of. The clerical end of the job was more confusing than pumping a dead body full of formaldehyde. The town graveyard only has a finite quantity of burial plots. For the families who decided to let the bill go unpaid, Tera had no choice but to vacate the gravesite to make room for those who could afford the dignity of burying their loved ones.
Orville taught Tera the art of digging a grave. Excavating the earth was not an easy task. It required hours of meticulous backbreaking work, that is if you were someone that wasn't an undertaker. Special heirloom shovels were passed down to undertakers within the Marrow clan. Tera would dawn one of these shovels. Blessed by Drust Tribulationists, the shovels were fueled by the unreleased suffering souls within the graveyard. Wielding one of these shovels allowed undertakers to possess unlimited stamina within the boundary of the graveyard.
Loretta always needed help with record keeping. Being a mortician was no easy feat. You needed to remember where each body came from, curate death certificates, handle both accounts receivable and accounts payable, maintain records of who is in each plot, all while ensuring no one robs the graves. Tera was thorough and organized, she preferred the office work rather than the labor intensive work of an undertaker.
With her guardians aging, Tera was tasked to take over the business within Redridge. A small young elf showed up at the office one day with a charter. The offer was simple, the Morticians Guild was looking to expand outside of Stormwind and Elwynn Forest. The Morticians Guild was asking for the financial power that singular business ventures in turn for political power within the Eastern Kingdoms. In return, the Morticians Guild offered increased revenue to each business venture by utilizing the general contractor's sect of the guild. The contractor's loyalty was paid to the guild in the form of a fiscal tax as well as dispatching those seemed unworthy. The erasure of the unworthy in turn provided more revenue for the morticians and undertakers as their bodies needed to go somewhere.
Visits increased in frequency after the charter had been signed. Gina was fascinated by Redridge Mountains. Tera had realized that Gina was taking a liking to her, even though Tera showed little interest in the elf. Focused on her job, Tera had a lot of work to do. Running both sides of the business wore heavily on Tera. Although Tera was only 29 years old, she had aged progressively due to working long hours each and every day.
Overtime, Tera slowly fed into Gina's silly antics. Taking time off from work, Tera would run out in the middle of the night with Gina to see the general contractors end of the guild. Tera had never been a violent person, but she found Gina's lack of sympathy and brutal nature to be intriguing. Seeing mutilated bodies was nothing new to Tera. However, witnessing the act of how they end up in the morgue was eye opening.
Crossing streams was unheard of within the guild. Undertakers never partook in executions and contractors never partook in the burial end of the spectrum. Tera followed along with Gina on one of her cash pickups for Kingsfall. As the pickup turned south, Gina needed to dispose of the borrower as they became rowdy. Watching the small elf tie up the large burly man to a chair, Gina spun the knife in the air, catching the handle. On the last toss, Gina carefully caught the blade, pointing the handle towards Tera. Staring at the handle, Tera gulped and reached out, taking the blade in her hand. Trembling, she took a deep breath and let out a blood gurgling scream. Plunging the dagger into the face of the man, she pulled it back. Blood splattered across Tera's face, not before she took another plunge. So began the pact of the Night Watch.
Overtime, Tera became more and more enveloped in Gina's world. The games that she played with borrowers were sickening, yet so fascinating. Tera needed to play it cool. She couldn't delve too far into Gina's biddings, as Tera didn't want to be caught up in any misfortunes that may arise.
Undertakers were salesmen first, then laborers. A lot of time and effort went into being an undertaker, especially when your business partners drop off bodies of men with no names. Tera had to do plenty of research into public records to figure out who these people were. Luckily, the bodies Gina dropped off had some connections already established. Gina's colleague Monte, the debtor, kept meticulous records on everyone who took loans from his coffers. Monte happily shared this information with Tera as Gina was owed an innumerable amount of favors from him.
The undertakers were usually the first to deliver the untimely news of death to worrying families. Mourning families were the easiest to sell a funeral to as unwavering respect for the dead, regardless of previous convictions, was a societal norm. Undertakers knew how to help a family through grieving all while emptying their pockets, this is something Tera excelled at.
Bodies that Gina brought to Tera with no name usually did not garner much of any money. The monetary value in a nameless corpse greatly depended on how fresh the body was. Anything less than 90 minutes after the kill is game. Over 90 minutes and the organs are too deoxygenated to be sold. Fresh bodies were hard to come by as most of the time Gina had to travel great distances to collect the money she was owed.
Bodies that were deemed unharvestable were mulched. Certain druid clans would buy mulched bodies for whatever rituals they partook in. Tera never questioned what they needed the blood mulch for as they paid her well. At the end of the day, there was always money to be made with the dead.
Tera and Gina had created a monetary ecosystem with an entire cycle that would earn the both of them a fair sum of coin.
Inquisition is the key to survival. Questioning our own existence, delving into our own lineage and genealogy, delivering on the expectation of greatness. Inquisitors are chosen at a later age in life, without any sort of intervention. The inquisitors have deep connections with both the Morticians Guild as well as the Eventide Constellate. The tie stems from the Mortician's vast genealogical archives, allowing the Constellate to hand pick children to adopt into their organization. The role of the Inquisitor is short lived. Only serving on a ten year basis starting at the age of twenty.
Because of the Mortician's Guild vast political sphere, the Inquisitor role is often granted to those who have significant ties with the guild as well as a keen interest in organization, genealogy, and familiar affairs. The Inquisitor role is not necessarily difficult but more cumbersome than anything. The Inquisitor must protect the interests of the Constellate by choosing children based on strict criteria as well as advising the sitting Grand Seer in a way to ensure neutrality and secrecy.
Children are often chose based on lineage, potential connections to greater powers, reaction, and tolerance. Women who give birth to these children are often contracted by the Constellate to give birth to a child to be potentially indoctrined into the Constellate. These women are normally chosen by their lineage, of which their genealogical records had been already collected by the Constellate for hundreds of years prior.
Once Tera had taken over her family business and approached by Gina to join the Mortician's Guild, life began to get busy. Between forming relations with Gina, and wiggling her way into the guild, she found herself to be ascending a social latter that she wasn't even sure existed.
Due to Gina's connections to the top of the guild, Tera was ascended rather quickly. Giddeon, being the lead chairman, heard many rumors of this woman that Gina talked up about. Unfortunately, Giddeons busy schedule did not allow time for him to meet face to face with Tera.
The Constellates at the time were interviewing for a new Inquisitor as the ten year mark was right around the corner. The Constellate had been pressuring the guild to put forth someone to potentially take up the role of Inquisitor. At the time, Giddeon was so far behind schedule, that he didn't have time to think about choices and listed off the first woman that came to his mind. Tera had been carted out to a small town in Drustvar. Within an inn, she sat across a booth with the current Grand Seer. Tera was cold and methodical, the words she spoke were concise and dripping with confidence. The way she presented herself was her usual self, a mix of apathy sprinkled with conversational finesse. The Grand Seer found Tera to be a strong candidate for the position. With Tera's family history of being undertaker's, her passion for genealogy, and her stoic demeanor, she could not have been a better pick. As Giddeon caught up on his duties, he has began to siphon more candidates to the Constellate to interview for the Inquisitor position. However, the Grand Seer's mind was already made.Tera's first task as an Inquisitor is to absorb knowledge. Tera spent a lot of her daylight hours running her family business and during the night she studied the art of inquiring. Inquisitors were passed down a small locket, which contained a part of the soulstone of the first Grand Seer. The metal this locket was made from is a rare material called Demonsteel. The steel was enchanted to allow the wielder of the locket to possess some of the powers of the soulstone without inheriting the Curse of the Eventide. This relic has been shrouded in secrecy for the duration of its existence as the knowledge of wielding the curse, in any hands other than the Constellate, would result in potential catastrophe.
With this locket, Tera learned to see the lineage of anyone she wishes, going back as far as time allows. With this gift, she would have a greater understanding of which child to pick to be indoctrined into the Constellate.
Other knowledge Tera would need to understand is how a child reacts to the locket. Those inflicted with the touch of the void would be temporarily drawn to the lockets magical radiance, wishing to consume its powers. Those whom are not afflicted by the void would be drawn to cry as the minor pestilence emitted by the locket would be enough to harm a child due to a weak immune system but ineffective against adults. The child must be free of any deformities and be able to tolerate the curse within the locket that slowly seeps out. Lastly, any child that bears hereditary gifts such as links to the arcane magic or being a conduit of the light can be considered but extreme caution must be taken as to not mix schools with the curse, hence why a tolerance is very important.
Once ready, Tera would begin the job of an Inquisitor. Sifting through numerous submitted contracts and performing countless hours of research, Tera would reach out to qualified women with their spouse to finalize their contracts. Timing needed to be impeccable in order to get a good pool of children to choose from. Once born, Tera would visit villages to assess the children and choose a new Eventide initiate.
Over time a new Grand Seer was underway to being ascended. A young elf from Suramar, slightly older than Tera, was to be chosen. Vizzir was his name. The current Grand Seer, Artemes, consulted with Tera about Vizzir. Unfortunately, Vizzir was rebellious. He did not want to follow his lineage into taking on royalty. He wanted to forge his own path in life.
With that, word got out that Vizzir walked out of the Eventide Library in the middle of the night. He went off to forge a new path for his life. Tera had a task, she needed to convince Vizzir to return to the Constellate.
Tera followed Vizzir from a distance until he came across a town. At that point is when Tera approached him. Vizzir had never met Tera, however Tera knew more about Vizzir than he put out. Tera spent a lot of time with Vizzir as they wandered, eventually having him fall in love with her. She had Vizzir under her thumb, and thankfully, she used this to convince Vizzir to return to the Library. She convinced him that running away means he is scared, and that he is scared of facing his reality. He was destined for greater things and he should embrace it, not run from it.
Once at the Library, she watched Vizzir be respected for his return, as well as earning his ascension as a Tribulationist. She watched him struggle with the new gift he had received. She tended to him often, making sure he was okay as he had the vision seared from his eyes.
Vizzir was tasked with finding the soulstone. This was his path to ascension. Tera would go on to continue living her life as an undertaker and recruiting initiates for the Constellate. Once Vizzir found the soulstone, he ascended to his role as Grand Seer. With this, Tera would advise him. However, Tera would soon realize she had little control over Vizzir's final word. Vizzir spent a lot of time using the soulstone to learn new spells, which he demonstrated to his peers. He took on an apprentice as well. These new abilities he learned instilled fear within the Constellate's acolytes. Word had gotten out about Vizzir and his abilities.
Without warning, the Library was attacked in the night. Hundreds of men poured into the confines, torching books and scrolls, killing members of the Constellate, and destroying whatever they could. There was no time to think for Tera, she needed to take what she could and leave.
With the locket in her pocket, she made a dash, only to be cornered in a room by a group of pillagers. With no choice, she leapt from a nearby window. Falling almost three stories, she landed in an incline and stumbled down a hill. Her breathing became ragged and she couldn't feel her left leg. She pressed her hand into her chest, realizing she broke a rib. She couldn't move her leg without experiencing excruciating pain.
She crawled the best she could into a nearby bush. She heard screams of terror and the march of footsteps go by the bush she laid in. She couldn't expose herself, she wasn't in any sort of condition to be a hero. All she could do is watch passively.
Once day time rolled around, the pillagers had left. Tera crawled out from the bush and grabbed a nearby branch. Using it as a crutch, she hobbled her way into town. She was able to buy a ride in a cart back to her home, where she sought medical help from Gina. For the time being, Tera decided to lay low and continue her work as an undertaker, not bothering with the politics involved with the guild. She possessed the locket, the last remaining power of the Eventide, and she must protect it at all costs.
