Imperfection
Within the underground halls of an unmarked building in Suramar, the soft cries of 10 children echoed. Ten presented to one woman to be granted a path of life they must walk. Inspecting the children, the woman would judge each child, any inadequacies would not be taken lightly. Unfortunately, all children presented to the woman weren't up to her expectations. All of the children were Nightborne, the elite of the elite. They were going to be the leaders of tomorrow.
The woman couldn't leave empty handed, she needed one child to ascend. Inspecting the children again, she found one with a large scar across his face. Intrigued, she looked at him further. Hovering a hand over his face, she began to extract the collagen from the healing wound. The child tried his best to not cry, despite his wound tearing open from the inside out.
The child's resilience spoke to the woman. Seeing as each of the children had imperfections that would prevent them from being meaningful and valiant leaders, she chose the scar faced one. The woman could sense the generational failures of each child, she could see physical qualities that would hinder them later in life, the woman is known as the Inquisitor. The rest of the children were discarded.
Mind Eraser
An introduction to the Eventide Constellate was in order. The child, laid in front of a small council, looking up at everyone. Bestowed upon him would be a new name, freeing him of his societal title. Vizzir is what he would be called until the end of days. Vizzir's path within the Constellate was going to come with much sacrifice, without a choice. Starting young, Vizzir undertook the role of an acolyte, spending immense amounts of time reading through the books within the Eventide Library.
The Eventide Library was a massive structure, possibly considered an architectural engineering wonder. Within it's walls was millions of tomes, scrolls, cables, and works of literature written by previous members of the Constellate. The Constellate's global posture was to observe, recount, and learn. A bystander within the world's confines. However, knowledge is power and power comes with a price.
Vizzir would go on to spend the next decade within it's walls, studying, learning, absorbing knowledge. This passiveness frustrated Vizzir. As he grew, he discovered he was a man of few words and many actions. Learning from the recounts of many fallen empires, most fell due to information being shared by those within. Weakness does not come from the outside, but rather within.
Finding the Constellate to bore him, he had escaped during the night. Escaping was significantly easier than he expected. There weren't guards at the library, the doors weren't locked. He simply walked out and away. At the time, Vizzir was 19 years old. He wandered the roads in search for what he couldn't mentally achieve, freedom.
He encountered a hooded woman along his journey. This woman spent a lot of time with Vizzir on the road, entranced by his confidence and self dedication. This woman easily wrapped Vizzir around her finger, charming him, seducing him, giving him what he craved the most: affection. The woman never revealed her identity to Vizzir during their travels, despite his pushes to know who she was. Vizzir was convinced to return to the Constellate as that was what would be in his best interests.
An Eternal Accolade
Youthfulness is a double edged blade. You have your body, strong and healthy, ample to do whatever it is your heart desires. On the other side, you lack the knowledge, the judgement, and the experience that comes with age. Vizzir was oblivious, blindsided by his unrestricted emotions. The woman followed him back to the library, spending many moons with him there, guiding him in the direction she wanted to see him in.
Ascension is what was deemed worthy for Vizzir. His return was seen by members of the Constellate as an accomplishment rather than defeat. It takes a lot of courage to step away from what is making you upset, however it takes even more courage to return to face it and reap it's benefits. This is what made Vizzir chosen for ascension, to receive the Curse of the Eventide, to become a Tribulationist.
The curse is not seen as such by the Constellate, but rather a power, controlled by self sacrifice. In the right hands, the curse can be wielded as a tool. Vizzir kneeled before the Grand Seer, his head tilted back with the Seer's thumbs over his eyes, holding his head in place. Vizzir accepted the gift. Unknown to him, the gift would blind him. Accepting the curse came with an initial cost, vision. Vizzir didn't lash out, he didn't show resistance, he accepted this unfortunate circumstance for what it was as everything in life requires sacrifice.
The Power Grab
With the abrupt disappearance of Vizzir's romantic interest, he felt as if he was on his own. Being a full fledged member of the Constellate, Vizzir became hungry. He needed to learn to live with his new impairment. The Grand Seer has tasked him with a mission. A soulstone lay somewhere within the world, containing the remnants of the first Seer. The curse within Vizzir would be used as a guide. His body would deteriorate the closer he came to the soulstone, an indicator that his quest was coming to completion. It has been written in ancient tomes that whoever finds the soulstone would be able to wield its powers, refunding the wielder of its blindness and granting the ability to siphon others to power the curse opposed to sacrificing ones own physical form for power.
Being a Nightborne, it was assumed Vizzir would accommodate to greater political positions within the Constellate. The Grand Seer appointed Vizzir to managing external affairs, to maintain and update the libraries records. Vizzir loathed this position. The assumption of his artistocratal skills was vastly overestimated, a critical mistake.
Vizzir spent a lot of time delegating his tasks to his inferiors, in exchange for time. This time Vizzir spent fascinating over the mysteries of the soulstone. Not once within the thousands of years that the Constellate had been operating has someone discovered it. This was Vizzir's conquest. This was his destiny.
Acquisition
The closer Vizzir came to the soulstone, the more his body betrayed him. The curse turned the body into pestilence and rot in exchange for power. The soulstone was the physical manifestation of the curse. Most bearers of the curse knew of the soulstones general location but avoided seeking its powers. This was due to its obscurity and the degradation it brought upon those who drew close to it.
Vizzir would begin to feel his organs shut down, an internal maw opened within his core, the scar across his face unraveled. He knew he was close, though he was timed. The pain and suffering brought him out to the middle of an open field. There was nothing around except grass and frolicking animals. Everything felt so alive and so serene, except for him. Vizzir fell to his hands and knees, he experienced muscle decay and was unable to keep himself up.
He slowly crawled, feeling the earth beneath him, confused as to why he was feeling dirt instead of grass. He finally collapsed, his breathing seized, his body grew cold.
Critical Emergence
A gasp of air escaped Vizzir's mouth. He was laying in a bed within the walls of the Eventide Library. Only one person was in the room with him, the woman that he met during his initial departure of the Constellate. She looked up at him, staring at him. Within the clutches of Vizzir's hands was a small polished purple stone. Confused, he looked it over.
The woman introduced him as the new Grand Seer of the Eventide Constellate. The soulstone was a tradition passed down by other Grand Seer's. The soulstone is what kept control and power over those who beared the curse. When a sitting Grand Seer's time was nye, he would place the soulstone hidden somewhere within the world, which explained its secrecy and how only current day Tribulationists knew of its current location.
While the stone is within the possession of a Tribulationist, the stones powers are imbued with them. Allowing the Tribulationist to not kill those around them unless that was their wish, they had full control over the stone as well as the curse within their body. Whom ever controlled the stone controlled the Constellate and the powers it possessed. Tribulationists are chosen at birth to uphold the Constellate's neutral posture, which includes ensuring whoever controls the stone is fit to do so, which is why children are curated at birth and indoctrined into the Constellate.
The woman explained all this to Vizzir. She has revealed herself to him as Tera, Inquisitor of the Constellate. She was the one who carefully selected a children from several groups of devoted Constellate followers all over the world. She was the one who guided Vizzir back to the Constellate in his time of rebellion. However, this would be the end of her road. The role of the Grand Seer was to act as a singularity, pure from external judgement. Vizzir had been chosen from birth to lead based off of his ancient ancestors power over the lands. He was not an optimal fit because of how his ancestors lead their people to annihilation. Under her supervision and the previous Grand Seer's guidance, they molded Vizzir, tested him, and awarded him in hopes to break his ancestoral cycle.
Glory and Pestilence
After the former Grand Seer's passing, Vizzir was now placed within his throne. Years has gone by of peaceful record collecting. The role of the Grand Seer bored Vizzir, however he did entertain himself with experimentation. With the power of the soulstone, he discovered powers within the curse that hadn't previously been discovered. He spent a lot of time uncovering ways to bring pain upon others. He kept records of this, even teaching the new generation of Tribulationists ways to harness their powers to protect themselves.
Word spread outside of the Constellate of the abilities Vizzir had began to taught junior Tribulationists. His own Tribulationists began to report how far word of this was beginning to spread, what kind of fear it was striking into the commoners. This was not what Vizzir had wished to accomplish with these discoveries. Vizzir began to lock down the Constellate. Keeping guards on a rotating schedule, locking doors, shutting windows.
These actions scared other Tribulationists as well as outsiders. Vizzir presented these measures as precautionary, to protect the secrets of the library. However, you cannot keep prying eyes away from locked doors. Curiosity drove more people to the Constellate than ever before. Several Kingdoms launched investigations into the Constellate, wondering why it's open door policy has suddenly closed.
At heart, Vizzir was not meant for politics. As much as he was shaped to be a politician, he couldn't grasp onto the role. As the kingdoms inquired, he began to crumble under pressure.
Vizzir snapped.
Stumbling Monstrosity
The library was set ablaze. Vizzir had no idea who had began an assault on the Constellate's. Around each corner Vizzir ran, multiple men with swords were ruthlessly destroying books and murdering Tribulationists. Vizzir took an underground passage to an antechamber full of ancient relics. From here, Vizzir grabbed whatever he thought would be best to defend himself. A pair of swords, with a faint purple glow, stood out to him, he felt the aura they gave off. Taking them, he escaped the library by himself. He turned back, hearing the screams of his people. He had to push forward.
With the extermination of the Tribulationists, Vizzir would find out that his escape was public knowledge. People referred to him in conversation as the Shade of the Eventide because of his hasty escape and thirst for power. This began to eat at Vizzir as he traveled the lands. He couldn't stay in one spot without risk of being executed. However his intentions were merely to protect the Tribulationists, not to hurt anyone.
Vizzir continues to travel the lands to this day, staying in towns only for a few days at a time to avoid detection. He continues to hold the soulstone but has reversed it to output a pestilence that only those with the curse can feel, as if his time as a Grand Seer was coming to an end. His hopes would be to find survivors.
Vizzir is a soul who is misunderstood.
